A shared open world, in your browser

The Unfinish’d

A shared open world you arrive in with nothing but a letter.

Chop, mine, build, buy land and find out what happened here. Free to play, and still being finished by the people who play it.

In development. Playable now, and nowhere near done.

The world

Arrive with a letter.

The Unfinish’d is a world shared by everyone playing it. You arrive with a letter in your pack, which tells you where you are and what the first journey is. Everything after that is yours to work out.

You can treat it as a survival game: gather wood and stone, mine iron, forge better tools, buy land and raise a house. Or you can treat it as an adventure, because there are people here with problems, and working out what to do about them is the game. Most people do both.

Nothing marks itself on your map, and the world does not wait for you. Night is darker than you expect, and not everything out there is friendly.

What it is

Something you make a mark on.

  • One shared world

There is one of it, it keeps running when you leave, and what you build stays where you built it.

  • Gather, mine, forge

Chop wood, dig real holes in the mountains for iron, gold and emerald, and forge better tools and weapons at an anvil.

  • Buy land and build

The world is split into parcels thirty-two metres square. Buy one, then decide who may build on it and put up whatever you can.

  • Quests are puzzles

Nobody gives you a task list. Someone has a problem and what you do about it is yours to work out. Nothing marks itself on your map.

  • Knowledge is an object

A Memory is something you carry, and while you carry it you know something. It can be given away, traded or lost.

  • A lived-in world

Farm, fish, cook, tame a horse, walk the Three Roads, and watch for the Gloom after dark.

Before you play

Good to know.

  • The first load is big

The world and its engine come to roughly 30 MB, because it all runs in your browser. It loads once and is then cached.

  • Keyboard and mouse first

A controller works throughout, and a phone works for walking, fighting, gathering and talking. Building is a mouse job.

  • Pick a name

You sign in with a name and password, and your land and purse follow that name. A wallet is only needed to claim a prize, never to play.

Questions
