Gullhaven

Take the road south from the Three Roads and go east at the fork in the heights, past the foot of the Chain Bridge (or cross the bridge from Saltmarch), then follow the road where it bends south through the woods until it stops at a fingerpost above the sea. Over the brow below it is Gullhaven, a fishing village on a cove of the bay, its cottages on the slopes all round the water.

  • The quay runs across the head of the cove: a fish stall with the day's catch, crates and barrels, lobster pots, a bench to watch the boats from.
  • The pier goes out down the middle of the cove, the fishing boats tied up along it, to its head, where the lantern burns for the boats coming home after dark.
  • The slipway runs down the bank into the water beside the quay, with boats drawn up on the shore by it, and nets hang drying on their racks across the cove.
  • The smokehouse stands above the quay, its front open: walk up into it and the fish hang over a fire that never goes out.

The water is deep right up to the pier, so if you go off the end you will be swimming. Like the other villages there is no inn, so it is a place to visit. On the map it is the little anchor.

The world is waiting.
